A failed app rebuilt cross-platform — and abandoned users came back

TargetVision's Longshot lets long-range shooters see their hits in real time — no spotter required. After a failed vendor left them with an unstable app, we audited the code and rebuilt iOS and Android on one codebase, winning back users who'd abandoned the legacy product.

iOS + Android one consolidated codebase
Won back users who'd abandoned it
Modest investment, dual-platform
No spotter real-time shot feedback
The challenge

What they were up against.

Long-range shooting enthusiasts often can't see their targets from where they shoot — they rely on a human spotter to relay where each shot landed, which introduces delay, human error, and ambiguity. Longshot's cameras solve that, but the mobile apps that made the system usable needed to work reliably across iOS and Android. After a frustratingly ineffective experience with other development teams, TargetVision brought in Frogslayer to audit the code and reimagine both apps on a stable, maintainable foundation.

  • Shooters depended on a human spotter — slow, and prone to error
  • An unstable legacy iOS app that users had begun to abandon
  • Two separate codebases, expensive and slow to maintain
  • A prior development team had failed to deliver
Our approach

How we did it.

01

Systems audit

We audited the existing code first — diagnosing what was driving instability and the maintenance burden before rebuilding.

02

Reimagine on one codebase

Rebuilt iOS and Android on a cross-platform framework with a single consolidated codebase, for simpler, cheaper maintenance.

03

Relaunch with parity

Relaunched both apps with enhanced functionality and a consistent look-and-feel regardless of operating system.

The outcome

What changed.

We delivered a dual-platform solution for a modest investment. The consolidated codebase made updates, bug fixes, and feature releases faster across both platforms — and the relaunch brought back part of the iOS user base that had abandoned the unstable legacy product. A new suite of tools made Longshot worth a second look, and end-user troubleshooting requests dropped. Delivered as a Value Sprint and run through AI Office.

Staying on schedule and within budget, Frogslayer has delivered a successful solution that has directly led to a decrease in end-user troubleshooting requests.
