Research software & data services for researchers.
Custom software, data services, AI and analysis, and research-IT consulting for principal investigators and their teams. Scoped to the grant, owned by the university, built by a Texas team that started at Texas A&M.
The right technology for the research.
Research software and data tools for principal investigators at Texas A&M and The University of Texas, funded by IES, NIH, and NSF awards, since 2010.
“After our team earned the federal grant, we were in contact with Morelco. The moment we ‘knew’ Morelco was the right choice is the day Ross and his team met with us for an entire day. We spent that day brainstorming and defining what we wanted our software to do. Ross and his team were extremely helpful and patient as we learned the new terminology and processes.”
— Melissa Fogarty, Educational Psychology · Department of Education & Human Development, Texas A&M University “Collaborative and flexible. Staff are very responsive to feedback and changes and offer insight into making our ideas better. They work hard, they communicate, they are great problem-solvers, and they do very good work.”
— Nathan Clemens, Language & Literacy research, Texas A&M University
Software, data, and analysis that carry the study.
Custom research software
Web, mobile, desktop, and embedded applications to stay connected with research subjects, deliver content and interventions, collect data in the field, and manage research outputs and progress along the way. Scientific and engineering tools for modeling, simulation, and data or image processing and analysis.
Data services
Managing digital data, content, and assets across a project and its collaborators in a way that protects the integrity and safety of live project data, meets IRB and sponsor requirements, and makes publicly funded research data accessible after the project ends.
AI & analysis
Machine learning, computer vision, document extraction, and predictive models applied to research data, with the pipeline, the reproducibility, and the documentation a publication needs. A person approves; the system logs.
Reporting & dashboards
Role-based reporting for principal investigators, coordinators, and sponsors: enrollment, compliance, progress, and outcomes in real time instead of at the end of the reporting period.
Integrations
Instruments, survey tools, LMS and registrar systems, cloud storage, and lab equipment connected so data is entered once and flows where it needs to go.
Research-IT consulting & training
Build versus buy, technology options and comparisons, audits of existing tools, and hands-on training so your team can carry the work forward when we step back.
Pre-award, post-award, or directly allocated.
Research funding has rules that commercial budgets do not. We work inside them: a fixed fee for planning, a fixed budget for the build, and the university owns everything.
“Our first major concern was determining if it was even possible to implement our ideas. Once the team assured us our ideas were possible, we wanted to make sure that we could afford to hire them and stay within our grant budget. To our relief, the answer was yes!”
— Melissa Fogarty, Texas A&M University Five steps, every time.
For research teams, “Engage” is the build itself, scoped to the award and paced to the academic calendar.
- 01Discovery Call30–60 min
You tell us the problem in your words. We tell you straight whether — and where — we can help. No slides.
- 02Deep Dive60–90 min
The people closest to the problem, in one room (or one call). We get to the real constraint and the number that matters.
- 03Proposal & Paperworkdays, not weeks
Scope, price, and timeline in writing. A standard MSA and a short SOW — no 50-page lock-up.
- 04Prep & Kickoffweek 1
Access, environments, and a kickoff with everyone who touches the work. You know who’s on it and what ships first.
- 05Engageongoing
The work itself — visible every week, in your environment, with your people in the loop.
Common questions.
Can you work within a grant budget and timeline?
Yes, and it is how we prefer to work. The award is a fixed budget, so we scope to it: a strong first release inside the money, then a plan for the rest. Timelines follow the grant period and the academic calendar, and we plan around the semester rather than pretending it does not exist.
Who owns the software and the data?
The university does. Code, data, documentation, and infrastructure live in university-controlled accounts and repositories. That is what most sponsors require, and it is how we work with every client.
How do you handle IRB, HIPAA, and data security requirements?
We build to the protocol. Access controls, audit trails, encryption, de-identification, and retention are designed in from the start rather than added for the audit. We are SOC 2 Type 2, and we have built systems handling protected health information and regulated financial data.
Can you help before the proposal is written?
Yes. A conversation about what the technology needs to do and roughly what it will cost is free. If the proposal needs real design work, a fixed-fee planning engagement produces the scope, the budget line, and material you can put in the narrative.
What happens when the grant ends?
We plan for it from the start: documentation, training for your team, and a path to keep the system running on university infrastructure or through our managed hosting at a predictable monthly cost. Publicly funded data stays accessible after the project.
Why Frogslayer?
We started at Texas A&M. Frogslayer was founded in College Station in 2005, and for years our sister firm Morelco built research software and data tools for university researchers. That work is part of Frogslayer now: the same team, the same fixed-budget approach, and twenty years of building software people depend on.
Have a project or a proposal in mind? Let’s talk.
A conversation about what the technology needs to do, and roughly what it costs, is free. Before or after the award.
